Are they considering a space craft that creates a gravity environment by rotating rather that subject astronauts to the damaging effects of long periods of zero gravity?

Yes the do, but obtaining a gravity by spinning a spacecraft it’s something really, really difficult.

They did some test on this idea and the level of gravity reached was ridiculously low, less than 1/10 of the Earth’s gravity.

The idea of a spacecraft that rotates like the one from Space Odissey

is theoretically a good idea, but very difficult to apply for our gravity, we would need to spin extremely fast.

Also these spacecrafts are damn cool!
