How does LED outdoor lighting compare to sodium vapor lights with regards to light pollution as it affects astronomy?

Despite diffuser shells, LED are more concentrated sources of light than sodium vapour. Also it has a broader spectrum. So LEDs are worse when compared like-to-like. But LED does give you flexibility to mount as desired and they do not melt / burn gelatin paper like the sodium vapour would if used to cover directly.

So my recommendation would be LEDs but with some customization in terms of mounting and narrowing the spectrum.
