Shafts, gears and belts are common in industry. Some types of transmissions use friction wheels or cones pressed against each other. Turbine engines use hot gases against their turbines, often also driving propellers to push bypass air. Propeller driven aircraft and wind generators use (obviously) propellers. Most ships today use propellers though in the past waterwheels and sails were common. Hamster wheels use hamsters in a wheel. Jackhammers and pile drivers use hammers against posts or chisels. Humans and draft animals use muscles.
