A tomato plant gives fruit once it starts bearing flowers, till it's life cycle completes. The fruit bearing capacity depends on the health of the plant and conditions of the soil.

The Indian Institute of Horticultural Research’s (IIHR) Arka Rakshak variety of tomato has yielded 19 kg per plant. This is the yield level recorded by IIHR scientists at a farmer’s field under precision farming.

The average yield is 10–15 kg per plant.
