Because water is cheaper than almonds and people aren’t reading labels. If you do the arithmetic based on protein or fat per serving for popular commercial almond milks, you’ll find you’re getting about 5 almonds per cup. One gram of protein is in 5 grams of almonds, and almonds weigh about a gram each. You’d need three gallons to get a modest amount of protein for the day.
