Both of these types of galaxies have one thing in common. They began their lives as single masses of fusion. While spiral galaxies are created with rotation, irregular and elliptical galaxies have little to no rotation. The way they release their matter is determined by the shape of the initial mass. Elliptical galaxies were spherical. Irregular galaxies perhaps weren't able to become spheres or were impacted again after their initial formation.
