where i live they are called wild onions-i have heard people from the eastern states call them ramps but we always called them wild onions, when i was young we milked cows and in the spring when the wild onions were at their peak cows would some times eat them and it would ruin the milk. one cow would ruin a whole ten gallon can of milk. so when a can was found to be contaminated we would have to check every cow before putting her milk in the system- it was a slow and tedious process and we hated the onion season in the spring
