When adding mushrooms to a sauce, do they have to be cooked first?

If you add dried porcinis, you need to rehydrate them one hour before the use. Then add them , minced , to the recipe, when requested, norlally sauteeing them with garlic or onions or various veggies. Preserve the water and use it in the sauteed veggies. to give more flavour.
