From suppliers. In the case of large supermarkets they have a long-term contract with suppliers which guarantee supply of fresh fruit and vegetables throughout the year, with a few exceptions. Waitrose has it's own in-house farms (actually owned by parent company John Lewis Partnership) called the Leckie Estate which supply the stores during the season. At other times fruit and vegetables are imported or bought from suppliers.
