Tomatoes are fruit. But, in the US, fruit is something sweet that is eaten for dessert. Even the sweetest home grown tomatoes are somewhat acidic, and are used in salads and main dishes. So, the United States Department of Agriculture declared it a vegetable. Also all summer and winter squash. Definitely fruit, but the USDA says vegetable. When even the USDA is anti-science, no wonder a baboon is President of the United States.
